In our conversations with coffee farmers, we often hear that premium quality coffee frequently ends up at auction due to a lack of a market. Extremely low prices are offered there, and this high-quality coffee disappears into the industrial mass, undoing the farmers' hard work. What a waste! We understand that we can double the impact for the farmers we already work with by purchasing this quality as well.
For this blend, we combine two washed coffees in a 50/50 ratio: Querocoto from Peru and Kyarumba from Uganda. The Peruvian component comes from the Rutas del Inca cooperative, in which 350 farmers from the western Andes work together. The name means 'Routes of the Inca' in Spanish and refers to the historical trade routes that run through this mountain region. The Ugandan half comes from Bukonzo Organic Farmers Cooperative Union (BOCU), a cooperative of approximately 2,500 farmers in Western Uganda. 'Bukonzo' refers to the Konzo region and the Konzo people in the Rwenzori area, thus underscoring the geographical and cultural origins of this coffee.
Because both coffees are processed after washing, they create a clear and balanced base. The flavor profile reveals a sweet, fresh, and fruity character with notes of chocolate, lemon, hazelnut, and orange. It is an accessible and versatile coffee that appeals to a wide audience: a true crowd-pleaser that works well with various brewing methods and remains beautifully balanced whether black or with milk.
